What Family Law Attorneys Should Know About Dependency

This presentation features David Silberman who will provide a primer for family law attorneys who can sometimes find themselves thrown into the dependency arena through their family law cases.

David Silberman joined the San Mateo County Counsel’s Office in 2004. In 2013 he was promoted to Government Lead. In 2015, David was promoted to the position of Chief Deputy County Counsel. He currently is assigned to advise: the Sheriff, the Narcotics Task Force, the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center, the Grand Jury, serves on the Child Protective Services Team and as the contract General Counsel for Peninsula Clean Energy. He also supervises attorneys on the Litigation Team, Child Protective Services Team, Public Guardian/Public Administrator Team and those that serve a number of other public safety, environmental and health clients. As a member and now leader of the Child Protective Services Team, David has appeared in approximately 1000 juvenile matters and handled hundreds of trials, including some of the most complex faced by his office. During his time in the Office, he has also represented public schools and most other County departments and divisions at one point or another. Prior to the County Counsel’s Office, he was an associate at Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk & Rabkin and served as a law clerk for judges on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and Central District of California.
