AAML NorCal chapter programs

Mentees, Associates and Interested Practitioner's Night

The mentoring committee presents a Mentees, Associates and Interested Practitioner's Night Night each year.  All of their mentees as well as our own associates are invited out for a "super-mentoring" dinner and program.

Judge's Night

The chapter sponsors an annual Judges dinner, attended by bench officers from all of the Bay Area Counties.  We bring them together to share with us and each other their upcoming events, changes and new programs for each of the superior courts.

Mentoring Program

The Chapter 's Mentoring Program is designed to contribute to the development of the profession by offering young lawyers, whether affiliated with a firm or not, the opportunity to learn about the substantive and philosophical aspects of family law from senior practitioners, by offering a place to build community and collegiality among newer lawyers, and to introduce AAML Fellows to the next generation of lawyers. The mentoring groups are a place for younger and/or less experienced family lawyers to ask questions, share concerns, and debate ideas in a supportive environment. The program is structured over two or three years with a curriculum that alternates monthly meetings between substantive family law practice topics with guest speakers and demonstrations and case consults, and group-building meetings.

Symposium

Open to Fellows and non-Fellows alike, our annual Symposium provides MCLE and Legal Specialization continuing education credit for family lawyers.  Over a 2-1/2 day period, a distinguished faculty consisting of lawyers, judges and members of other related professions presents a series of seminars on the latest issues in the field of family law.  The Symposium takes place at venues located in the California wine country and in other attractive sites and is an excellent opportunity to learn, to network, and to socialize with colleagues.  Some of the proceeds from the Symposium are donated to local charities.

Trial Practicum

Our biennial Trial Practicum provides 24 young associates and new lawyers a four-day "hands on" program on every aspect, practical and ethical, of bringing a case from the initial meeting to trial.  The course culminates in all-day mock trials, usually held in the County Courthouse.
