AAML NorCal Chapter Programs

Mentees, Associates and Interested Practitioner's Night

The Mentoring Committee hosts a Mentees, Associates, and Interested Practitioner's Night each year. Mentees and associates of AAML Fellows are invited to a "super-mentoring" dinner program.

Judge's Night

The chapter sponsors an annual Judges dinner, attended by bench officers from all of the Bay Area Counties. Fellows have an opportunity to get to know our public court bench officers, and they share with us and each other their upcoming events, changes, and new programs for each of the superior courts.

Mentoring Program

The Chapter 's Mentoring Program is designed to contribute to the development of the profession by offering young lawyers, whether affiliated with a firm or not, the opportunity to learn about the substantive and philosophical aspects of family law from senior practitioners, by offering a place to build community and collegiality among newer lawyers, and to introduce AAML Fellows to the next generation of lawyers. The mentoring groups are a place for younger and/or less experienced family lawyers to ask questions, share concerns, and debate ideas in a supportive environment. The program is structured over two or three years with a curriculum that alternates monthly meetings between substantive family law practice topics with guest speakers and demonstrations and case consults, and group-building meetings.

Symposium

The Northern California Chapter of the AAML invites you to attend our annual Symposium where leaders in the field of family law join to educate and be educated. Since 1976, the AAML Symposium has provided the highest quality continuing legal education to family law professionals and judicial officers across the State of California to promote excellence in the practice of family law. The Symposium is held over 3 days in the beautiful Napa Valley and includes a number of lively social events.

Trial Practicum

The Trial Practicum is a 4-day intensive advocacy course focused on building and refining your family law-centered courtroom skills. Designed for both seasoned practitioners and those new to the field, attendees will receive instruction in small groups from leading family law trial attorneys, culminating with a mock trial held on the final day in San Francisco County courtrooms. The Trial Practicum is held every even year in San Francisco and qualifies as a recognized trial advocacy program for the Task Requirement for Certification as a Family Law Specialist (See The Standards for Certification and Recertification in Family Law, Section 2.2.2.3); Rules_Title3_Div2-Ch2_LegSpec_Family.pdf (ca.gov).
